Begun in 1834, Wynnwood is Columbus´ second oldest house. This historic house, originally known as the "The Elms", was the home of Lambert Spencer whose son, Samuel, was the first president of the Southern Railway Company. The development of this system was instrumental in the South´s recovery from the war Between the States. In 1868, Lloyd Bowers added the two hexagonal wings. The house remained in the Bowers family until 1966 when it was acquired by Allen McGehee Woodall, Jr. and became "Wynnwood".

Wynnwood was placed on the National Register of Historic Sites and Places, United States Department of the Interior in 1972.
