On this corner-boyhood home of George Foster Peabody (1855-1936),
Native of Columbus, philanthropist, churchman and staunch and generous friend of education. Distinguished in public life and eminently successful as a financier and business leader, he made numerous behests to churches, schools, and humanitarian causes, giving away practically all his fortune in his lifetime. He was partner in a leading New York banking investment firm which had a highly useful role in the financing of railroads, mines, and industries in America.

He was one of the outstanding Laymen of the Protestant Episcopal Church, and gave generously of his time, talents, and means to church causes. Prominent in politics (at one time he was National Treasurer of the Democratic Party). He urged citizens to meet fully their civic obligations and actively exercise the ballot.
